- Numerai expands after a 25.45 percent 2024 net return and begins a $1 million NMR buyback.
JPMorgan Asset Management has invested in Numerai’s global equity hedge fund and secured $500 million in capacity, aligning a major allocator with the hedge fund’s crypto-enabled crowd-sourced AI research model. The announcement was made on August 26, 2025.
JPMorgan Asset Management invests and secures $500m capacity in Numerai
Numerai stated that assets under management increased from $60 million to $450 million over three years and that its flagship strategy returned 25.45 percent net in 2024 with a 2.75 Sharpe ratio.
The firm described the year as its best to date. The new capacity from JPMorgan follows this performance record and provides room for a substantial institutional allocation.
The tie-up comes as asset managers step up AI exposure. A recent UN Trade and Development report projects the global AI market could reach $4.8 trillion by 2033, up from $189 billion in 2023, underscoring the scale of capital formation around machine intelligence.

Numerai initiates a $1m NMR buyback and expands headcount after performance gains
Numerai has begun a $1 million buyback of its Numeraire token, which powers incentives for the network of data scientists who submit predictive models. The company said more than one million NMR is staked daily on models and highlighted that NMR’s fixed supply is capped at 11 million, making treasury management a constraint for funding rewards.
The buyback is being executed with Coinbase Institutional, with orders placed at or near prevailing bid prices to avoid market disruption. Numerai said the process may take time to complete.
Alongside the capital move, Numerai is scaling staff to support trading and research. The firm reported recent hires that include an AI researcher from Meta and a trading engineer from Voleon. It also noted monthly trading volumes above $1 billion across more than 30 global markets as institutional interest has increased.
Numerai’s operating model blends traditional market infrastructure with blockchain-based incentives. Data scientists stake NMR on their models and are rewarded or penalized based on out-of-sample performance.
The company positions this as a way to align thousands of contributors with portfolio outcomes while giving the fund access to a diverse set of machine learning signals.
The $500 million capacity secured by JPMorgan indicates a defined allocation runway rather than a public timetable for full deployment.
For Numerai, the combination of institutional capacity, a token buyback program and recent performance provides additional resources to extend its AI-driven strategies into new markets and maintain its contributor incentives.
